Hi.your manual: Page: 203 The cartridge cradle cannot move Something is blocking the ink cartridge cradle (the part of the printer that holds the ink cartridges). To clear the obstruction, press (Power) button to turn off the printer, and then check the printer for jams. For more information, see Clear jams. Also, start reading at page 84.

There is repeated information about missing ink cartridges and the effect on the print head. Giget27, what is the exact code you see in your control panel?

That might help dial in a solution. Mind you.at the start of your thread, there was mention of a 'short' due to the copper wires attached to the ink cartridges. (mr.meyers) That issue is way beyond my scope of help! Hopefully this thread is being watched by those who have internal electrical knowledge. If there has been an electrical short.is there a fuse or a way to recover that problem?? We all look forward to knowing how it goes 😀 Self edit to add mr.meyers Edited by softeyes, 18 February 2015 - 08:23 AM. Thanks for the tips, everyone.

Still no go unfortunately. The exact message on the printer is 'The print carriage cannot move. Open the print cartridge access door, clear any paper jam or obstruction, and select OK.' There's no code showing with it. When I press OK it just tells me that there's no yellow ink. If I press OK again it gives me a second before giving me the first message again and starting all over. I looked around thoroughly in front and back for paper jams, but with no luck.

I don't think a paper jam is the problem though. The message didn't show up until I tried to put the copper on the ink carriage circuitry, but I still don't know how that would have affected it. As far as I can tell, I put everything back perfectly and now the copper isn't even there anymore. One thing I noticed was some white goop on the metel rod the print carriage moves on. I think it's just lubricant, but I don't remember seeing it before so I thought I'd mention it. Again, when I move the carriage manually or when it moves as part of its start-up it seems to be able to move just fine. I'm wondering if maybe this is a software issue and the printer has basically convinced itself it's broken.

Does that sound likely to anyone? Hi giget, apologies in advance if you did this: followed the video to a 'T'.not missing any step?

I know if you take a look at the carriage and it moves to the left/right it might seem ok? However, from 40 years of pencil sharpening in administration, I always seem to land the 'key operator' role with printers! One thing I found, whether a small desktop printer or one the size of a Smart Car.I always needed to start with step 1 and work through every step to the end of the process. Inevitably, if I would skip a step, the printer is very 'smart!' And would not allow a print error to clear until every door, drawer, knob, button on/off etc. And so forth was done!

Then.I always found that after the error notice would clear, I would always turn off the power and start up again. With that said, if you indeed followed every step in the YouTube video (it was quite long an boring!!).then great. If not, I encourage you to do so. Now.regarding the yellow ink error. Explain please what you have ultimately done with your ink cartridges?

What I would love to read, is that you went out and spent your shoe budget and purchased a complete new set Before installing the new set, clean the printheads as per the manual and/or in my post: As previously mentioned by mr.meyer post #5, it cannot hurt at all to insure your software drivers and firmware is up-to-date. Steps I'd take: 1. Methodically follow the 'clear carriage jam' 2. Clean printhead using the 'Tools shortcut' on your desktop, or with the control panel note: with the ink cartridges installed as they are 3. Remove all existing ink cartridges, even if they appear full 4. Clean printhead without the ink cartridges with the water method 5.

Install new HP ink cartridges 6. Process any printer updates: HP Mind you, my order of events might not be 100%, it is how I would do it! If other member(s) reading this thread has a better order of steps, or additional one(s) to offer.please step in! Very last step is you could certainly un-install and re-install the printer. Before doing so.I hope you have the CD that came with the printer? Read through all of the above and see what you think? Curious, does the printer work to scan or fax from the glass (no ink cartridges involved)?

Hang in there giget27! I did follow all the steps in the video you linked, softeyes. Thank you for sending it my way, but I'm afraid it hasn't fixed my problem. Clean printhead using the 'Tools shortcut' on your desktop, or with the control panel note: with the ink cartridges installed as they are Can you explain this step a bit more.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Also, while I appreciate the help you're offering me, I didn't appreciate the 'shoe budget' comment. I'm not refraining from buying ink because I want to buy fun things. The reason I started messing with my printer in the first place is because I can't afford to regularly buy whole new sets of ink, particularly when my printer insists that I replace the ink colors that I don't even use. I'm sure you just meant it as a passing joke, but I found your insinuation hurtful.

I should be able to get new ink on Monday. I will update on what effect that has next week. Until then, any more suggestion from anyone would be great to hear. I'm sure you just meant it as a passing joke, but I found your insinuation hurtful. Oh my goodness giget27.after working endless hours to 'help' you and your printer problem, for you to think I would 'insult you' with my shoe remark is ludicrous! There is no need for me to defend a moment of humor, however, for the record, let's be serious about what I meant about spending a shoe budget: Shoes are expensive.at least they sure are for me! So.let me explain this carefully so you might lighten up.if you had saved $200.00 for a new pair of shoes, and had to take that money and purchase HP ink cartridges for your 6600 printer, that means that the ink you have to purchase from HP is expensive, and you do not get to purchase new shoes, pay loan, pay your electric bill, replace with anything you need money for.

The money has gone to ink. Humble apologies for attempting to nip in a little bit of humor.

No doubt you are stressed out about your printer, I wish you nothing but success in finding a resolve, I have nothing else to offer. Sincerely, softeyes. Look at video. It is for the 6700 but is valid for the 6600. Make sure there are no paper jams. If you still have a problem then do the following. See video on how to enter the service menu.

Go to the home screen. You will not see the back button. Press where it is located 4 times to enter the service menu. Go to the resets menu and do a partial reset. Do not do the full reset.

To get access to the support menu, you do not need to turn the printer off and on again. To locate the return /back arrow, press the right arrow on the right hand side of the touch screen. This will show the return/back arrow (like an anti-clockwise arrow). Asyou go back to the home menu, this return/back arrow is no longer visible. Just slkowly press the spot where the return/back arrow was showing 4 times.

You should be able now to see the support menu. Beware, the full factory reset seems to require a new set of setup cartridges for the printer to work again. If this is not the case, please let me know how to bypass the setup screens. Thanks The above quote is but I believe is valid for the 6600.
