Setting up the Pixma MX882 As always, Canon provides a Getting Started manual for installing their printers, in this case, the Pixma MX882. It goes over the usual steps: unpack, connect phone jack, insert power cord and turn on, select language, install print head and ink cartridges, align print head, load paper and select a connection method. Once you’ve selected the connection (we chose wireless), you’ll need to install the software and prepare the printer for connection. Since we chose a wireless connection, we had to activate the Wireless LAN, select the correct network and type in the network key using the control panel on the Pixma MX882. Once the printer is connected to the wireless access point, we went ahead and inserted the provided CD. We chose to install the Pixma MX882 using the Easy Install which automatically installs all software provided but users can choose the custom install option and select which software they’d like installed on their PC. You will need to select the connection method you chose and verify the printer being installed, but the wizard will take over from there.
All in all, a fairly easy setup and no need to restart after completion. Ease of use The one thing I’ve noticed about Canon’s Pixma lineup is that these printers are easy to use.

The Pixma MX882 features the revamped Canon Solution Menu EX, which is basically a portal to all the individual software, products, manuals, and settings pages. Get connected to My Printer, another common Canon feature that allows users to change settings, get status updates, or troubleshoot problems (without delving into the on-screen manual). If you have multiple set up on your network they can all be accessed through the same My Printer window. Canon includes their Easy-PhotoPrint EX software with the Pixma MX882 because even as an office machine, it prints a full range of photos. I’ve used Easy-Photo Print software before and it may not be as fancy as other manufacturer’s photo software options, but it is fairly easy to use; select your images, select your paper, and then choose the layout and editing options before hitting print. Users can also now import photos from Flickr using the Photo Sharing Site tool (a small globe). The MP Navigator EX software has been upgraded to version 4.0 and the setup is different, but users will find the latest Navigator EX 4.0 as easy to use as the past generation.
It will still perform auto scan, automatically dividing multiple images into separate scans, as well as the gutter shadow removal for scanning books, etc. Like the previous generation MP Navigator, the MP Navigator EX 4.0 offers a memory card/flash drive import option allowing users to pull all the information off a memory card or USB flash drive plugged into the printer, eliminating the need for a camera, USB cord or external card reader to upload all their photos. All of our sample photos in the print quality tests were scanned in using the MG882 scanner. You can also access the ADF through the Navigator software so scanning a large document and then e-mailing it to co-workers or customers would be a breeze. It also offers one-click custom scans as well as one-click preset scans (save as PDF, attach to e-mail, open OCR, etc.). Most of the options found in the Navigator software can also be utilized through the printer control panel by hitting the scan button. The fax machine was easy to use thanks to step by step instructions during installation.
I had no problems getting the MX882 to fax to our office machine and vice versa. With the MX882, you do have the option to set the printer to fax only or use it with a working phone line (as in you would use it to make and receive calls).
The thing that will make you interested in is from its front panel. The backlit buttons can change depending on the function that you are using, but it is only at the beginning of the appeal.
